SAN FRANCISCO, California - Renowned Dutch dancer and choreographer Lucas Hoving recently died in his home in San Francisco. He was 87. In the 1970s, Hoving was the director of the Rotterdam Dance Academy.

Groningen-born Hoving already was a well known dancer when he, on tour in the United States, became enthralled by American modern dance and decided to stay. After studying with well known teacher Martha Graham, he made his Broadway debut in 1944 in ‘Bloomer Girl’ directed by Agnes De Mille, herself of Dutch parentage. Afterwards he joined Jose Limon’s Dance Company as principal dancer, ending his active career as choreographer and dance teacher.
