Champions of 1963 skating marathon together on film set

LEEUWARDEN – Forty six years ago, three marathon skaters made history and caused consternation when they crossed the finish line together to claim a joint first prize of the particularly grueling 1963 Eleven Cities Race. Just recently, the three men met again for an appearance on the film set for the documentary De hel van ’63 (The hell of ’63) with, as the backdrop, the statue of the ‘De Alvestederider’ (literally The Eleven Cities’ rider). The filmmaker completed filming with the appearance of the three former skaters.
