Synod PKN unanimously adopts report ‘Speaking about God’

LUNTEREN - The General Synod of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN) has unanimously adopted its pastoral advisory ‘Speaking about God’. The document is the response to a controversial minister who in a book claimed that God does not exist but is an experience. The controversy generated hundreds of letters to PKN’s Synod. The advisory noted that although many people believe in God, there is less agreement on how to describe who God is. The advisory seeks to channel such discussions within confessional channels. Following a discussion in which the document was critiqued and modified, it gained unanimous approval, much to the surprise of the man at the centre of the controversy.
