FINSTERWOLDE – If the case of Finsterwolde graveyard is any indication, there could be other cemeteries in the Netherlands as well looking for rights’ holders of burial plots. The Groningen village has an additional problem since all its administrative have disappeared, leaving the municipality of Oldambt guessing who lies buried in some plots and who has which claims to others. The search is on in other archives for any helpful information. Oldambt drew a blank at the Groningen Provincial Archives. The Finsterwolde site holds over 5,000 plots, many of them with headstones aged 150 years and older.
