VITÓRIA, Brazil - The Rotterdam port authority has signed a port development deal with the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo, the municipality of Presidente Kennedy and project developer Terminal Presidente Kennedy for the development of Porto Central, a new port in Brazil. The so-called ‘green field port’ will be located to the north of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and will be a deep sea industrial port for handling oil, natural gas, offshore services, dry bulk and general cargo. It will take several years before the first ship is expected to dock in the new port. The first phase involves the construction of a 1,000-hectare industrial port. Porto Central will be operated on the basis of the Port of Rotterdam’s tried and tested landlord principle. Rotterdam’s foreign policy is geared towards strategic joint ventures and new international participations.
