TILBURG - This western Brabant community of 190.000 people has been named ‘the most sustainable’ in the country. The honour was bestowed by COS Nederland, an association which promotes awareness of and participation in international cooperation. The group assesses all Dutch municipalities on such aspects as climate and water management, social policies, durable purchasing, managing green spaces and international cooperation. Although the subject of sustainable development is judged as inadequate throughout, Tilburg and municipalities such as Delft and Alkmaar topped the Dutch list. Province-wide, Noord-Brabant also ranked highest, with neighbouring Limburg coming in lowest.
