In recent years, a debate has been taking place about Dutch history, culture and identity, largely prompted by a perceived growing ignorance of these subjects. Neglect was detected as well because so many foreigners have settled in the Netherlands, many of whom know little about these subjects. The debate also examines the extent of integration of recent or 'older' newcomers. This book reviews the process and shows the resulting Dutch cultural canon, a work in progress.
