The Church Preserved Through Fires The Church Preserved Through Fires

A History of the Presbyterian Church in Korea

by Hur, S.G.

Long a closed society, Korea’s earliest exposure to the Reformed faith – in the 17th century – occurred through a number of shipwrecked Dutch sailors. Although their religion was noted by the Koreans, the men were no missionaries. For a long time, Koreans did not tolerate Christians, martyring many Roman Catholics and also the Reformed who arrived a century later with a Korean Bible translation in hand. The book introduces the history of a church tried by fire, first during the era of Korean isolation and later under an oppressive Japanese regime but also in the era of restoration which was not without its own severe challenge.
