Een Mythe aan Scherven Een Mythe aan Scherven

Een onderzoek naar de tactische gevechtsomstandigheden van mei 1940 op het Nederlandse strijdtoneel

by Kruit, Peter

In his book, the author introduces his readers to the nerve-wracking days of May 1940 when a modern and much better equipped German army invaded the Netherlands with tanks, planes and paratroopers, using new battle techniques.
Much has been written about the political events and about the battles, but newly discovered WWII records helped the author to shed new light on the history of the short-lived military resistance against the invaders.
He discovered a previously unknown source: the military lists of the wounded kept in the War Archives of the Dutch Red Cross. The new data suggests a far greater combat rate than previously assumed. By using an unconventional research method for his book, the author compares various sources and offers a far more nuanced account of the hostilities of May 1940.
