PUTTEN – Stichting Oktober ’44, a group that aims to keep alive the memory of the hundreds of men the town of Putten lost in a horrendous act of retaliation by the German command following an attack by the resistance on the car of one of its officers, is looking for any surviving family members of those who perished in the aftermath, now nearly 65 years ago. The municipality wants to invite all of them for the commemorative ceremonies on the 65th anniversary on October 1 but does not know where all have gone. The municipality is soliciting help to trace the surviving family members, of whom a number have immigrated as well.
