Elderly Dutch Canadian routinely volunteers at Pier 21

Thousands of visitors to Pier 21 have been guided around and entertained by Robert Vandekieft (86). The spry Dutch Canadian often mans the information desk inside the museum awaiting enquiries of all sorts on the museum which very obviously has become a major part of his life.

A senior, Vandekieft was on hand for the Dutch Immigration Commemoration ceremony and afterwards kept an eye on the media, ready to assist when asked.

Later he was seen taking groups to the theatre where they, after Vandekieft’s lively introduction, on a huge screen watched taped footage of Pier 21 experiences which had been acted out by performers and skillfully edited for the today’s audiences.
